Welcome to the
Darjeeling Literature Festival

Inspired by strong indigenous connections, our Society positions itself as a cultural confluence where the grandeur of the mountains meets deep regional heritage. By dedicating a core segment of our program to the Indigenous Spine - showcasing Kirati folklore, Limbu and Rai oral epics, Tibetan and Bhutia narratives, and live bilingual translation slams for Lepcha, Bhutia, and Nepali idioms - we, as the society actively address and rectify the global underrepresentation of regional tribal literature. This deliberate focus ensures that native storytelling elders and regional poets preserve and celebrate their ancestral roots on a prominent platform. Alongside this, through the Annual Festival, we actively work to establish a direct market tie-up amongst the National and International Publishing Houses, Bestselling Authors, Creative Practitioners, Media Houses, and our Regional Scholarship.

Beyond the stage, the society fosters deep community ownership and local empowerment by forging strategic academic partnerships with regional institutions such as North Bengal University, Darjeeling Government College, Sonada Degree College, and local Government and Private schools. By opening up vital volunteering opportunities for students, the framework builds grassroots participation and localised pride, drawing inspiration from successful community-owned cultural models. Through these efforts and measures taken around the year, we instrument literature to transform regional expression, youth engagement, and cultural preservation across the hills.
